Jubilee Centre donates medicine
JC in partnership with the Christian Medical and Dental Association donated medicines to Ndola District Health Management Team; Chipokota Mayamba Clinic in Chifubu and Mapalo Health Clinic. Dr Simon Miti the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in his letter to JC stated, “We wish to thank you most sincerely for your untiring efforts in assisting the vulnerable people and indeed, the ministry of health”.
Also through this partnership JC has given out more than 400 Bibles to the men and women who helped in the medical outreach program and youths in HIV/AIDS Youth Action Clubs. JC has also continued to give eye glasses that were donated by the CMDA to needy people in Chifubu churches.
Micah Challenge Launch:
Micah Challenge Zambia (M.C.Z) has officially been lunched in Zambia. The launch was held for two days, on the 3rd and 4th of August, 2007 in Lusaka.
On 3rd August there was workshop and Saturday, 4th August, 2007, saw the official national lunch for Micah Challenge Zambia.
Ninety church leaders attended the Launch. The national broadcaster came and we were televised on Muvi television on Friday and on Saturday and were broadcasted on Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation (ZNBC) and Christian Voice.
Bread for World Gathering:
Pastor Temfwe was a featured speaker at the Bread for World Gathering of 2007, held at American University, in Washington, D.C. Lawrence spoke after Rev. David Beckman, the President for Bread for the World, and Mr. Salil Shetty, Director of the UN Millennium Campaign and in his speech Lawrence told the 1000 Christian leaders from the USA and across the world that, “For us Christians, development is a spiritual activity. If we are not seeing souls coming to Christ, people being rooted in faith and doing justice then we have reduced development to mere social intervention. Such development is not of God.”
Later Lawrence participated in the Bread for the World advocacy on the Farm Bill. He visited Sen. Inhofe’s office where he spoke to his aid on the need for the Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS and Relief to be directed to empower vulnerable people in rural areas. Lawrence expressed concern that more funds were being spent on workshops for workers in AIDS rather than those who are directly affected especially people living in poverty and those in rural areas.
Learning Visits
Three groups have visited Jubilee Centre; these are the Transformation team from Tearfund U.K, the Christian Community Church and the Valparaiso Community Church team from the USA. They participated in youth HIV/AIDS programs, teachers training, Church leadership and feeding the orphans and vulnerable children.
Link Space:
JC has begun to work with Micah Challenge on a new project called Link Space. This will link churches in Zambia to those abroad in order to share the different cultural core values in worship and the role of the local church. Pray that the programme will be successful and fruitful.
Linkspace aims to link the global family of God, building on the great diversity and experience of men and women, girls and boys, around the world, who love God and bringing them together in an equal partnership to serving our Lord in their respective communities.
