Letter of Request for Support

Jubilee Centre May 8th, 2008

By 2010, JC will have mobilized 1500 local churches and their 150,000 members to actively engage in integral action by impacting an overall 750,000 people in their communities in all provinces.

Africa has enough Christians deeply rooted in matters of faith and professionally competent to salt and to light communities living in poverty and families ravaged by HIV/AIDS. John Stott says, “One of the most significant recent developments in the churches of Africa is the rise of sound biblical scholarship.”

With 100 people giving a donation of $30 every month a minimum of 500 churches will be empowered in 2008 in specific opportunities of bringing a broader vision of the presence of God in their communities

Chifubu workshop The phenomenal growth of the church in Africa is so encouraging and is just one reason for making poverty history and for reversing the incidents of HIV/AIDS. In many churches in the low-income areas we know that many Christians come to church hungry because they are poor. We also know that many are affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic either through themselves or their children being infected or by caring for an extended family member who is sick or by supporting orphans.

This should be a concern to every Evangelical Christian and leader. There is need to coordinate efforts by churches and all believers to make poverty history and to fight HIV/AIDS by improving competence levels of pastors and their leaders serving in low income communities. Your support of $30 per month for a year will inspire a minimum of 500 pastors and church leaders and their members in their community evangelism, compassionate ministry, youth envisioning, income generating activities and advocacy outreach. A $30 a month gift will provide training for church leaders in integral mission and provide resources for discipling others.

imageYou will be helping people like Pastor Nickson Phiri who was once struggling in how to be a biblically effective and culturally relevant preacher and now has a spiritually and numerically growing church. There are many like Pastor Phiri waiting in hope.

Today you can begin to change that. Please start a regular gift of $30 a month today. It is simple to do – but your gift will do wonders.

Take Nickson Phiri for example. Pastor Phiri was dedicated and desperate to see his church go out and evangelize and to also offer spiritual and material support both to those in the church and in the community. He did not know how he would communicate the Bible that his members be able to translate the mandate to love God and to love neighbor in a practical way.

Ultimately, he was amazed to discover that Jubilee Centre-with the support from people like you-was training pastors and church leaders inspiring them to rise up from the ‘come to the church and be saved mentality’ to a broader vision of the presence of the kingdom of God in their community. Today Pastor Phiri is overjoyed. He is a community leader and is a committee member of Residence Development Committee. His church is supporting 10 OVCs with $25 per child per month. The church is also involved in Home Based Care program supporting 30 people living with HIV/AIDS and promoting awareness and abstinence among the youths. Women are being taught knitting and tailoring. Pastor Phiri recently acquired an industrial machine which is supporting his family financially. The gospel is being preached and people are being saved and added to the church. Pastor Phiri is sharing this model with other churches.

We have seen that joy many times over. Just imagine the smiles and tearWheaton Pictures 035s of joy that greet us when someone like Pastor Phiri stands before his congregation and sees evidence of spiritual and material transformation in his own life and those he serves. Imagine the joy on the faces of children who had no hope for a meal or for attending school see God’s love demonstrated because they can have a meal and can go to school. Imagine the joy of a person living with HIV/AIDS as he/she is visited by a home based care giver who shares with him the message of forgiveness and hope in Christ. Imagine the joy of young people sitting at the feet of their peers being helped through fun and interactive activities how to create a vision for their life and for the nation that is free of HIV/AIDS.

Please don’t just visualize it – We are praying you will do something about it today – and make a regular gift. By contributing $30 every month starting today you will be reducing material poverty and HIV/AIDS infections and you will be feeding the hunger of people who are longing to know God more deeply.

What do you need to do? Simply complete the coupon below, detach. Send the coupon with your tax- deductible contribution to the address below. At the end of the day hope for a bright future for our people living in poverty is down to just those of us who love God and our neighbor – people like you and me.

Please don’t put down this request without responding. We cannot answer to the cries of Pastor Phiri and others’ spiritual hunger without your help. On our part we will keep you informed through our newsletter.
