Church Mobilisation Food Distribution:

Jubilee Centre’s major activity for the March and April were much concerned in Church Mobilisation. This was the disbursement of grants to Child Headed Household (CHH) in four communities we are working with. The four communities identified 61 Child Headed Households. Each of the 61 CHH was asked to do a budget for their needs to begin small business as income generating activities.

The churches from which these children were drawn will help in monitoring the progress of their businesses and book keeping.

One of the beneficiaries a grandmother said that she was humbled that God heard her cry for help. She has three grandchildren aged 12, 9, and 7 years only had one blanket in their home.

Training of pastors and church leaders in resource mobilization

Jubilee Centre has continued to train pastors in integral mission. More than 30 pastors and church leaders have been trained in integral mission in Ndola at which they were taught how church leaders could incorporate social responsibility in their regular Christian work. Topics included; Holistic salvation, causes and prevention of HIV/AIDS, causes and impact of HIV/AIDS, community and church mobilization strategies, mobilization of volunteers for community action and project management.

Chifubu workshop This was an important component of church leaders in social responsibility to the majority of them. This training program was an eye opener that helped to be inspired and get involved in social responsibility.

After the training program the church mobilization manager made follow up with pastors and church leaders to check out how they had responded to integral mission. More than 90% of church leaders had responded positively to the message of holistic ministry.

Local churches had started to address problems of poverty affecting CHH and OVC. In addition, the majority of pastors had started to integrate the HIV/AIDS message in their regular sermon by addressing aspects of causes, prevention and care. Pastors had begun to mention issues of holiness as essential for prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS.

In addition, abstinence before marriage and faithfulness between married couples was widely emphasized.

Problems of stigma and discrimination which characterized people with HIV/AIDS were also tackled by drawing parallel lessons in leprosy and other diseases in biblical terms that led to discrimination and isolation.

JC Prayer Requests:

Continue praying for the provincial Micah Challenge provincial launches. The essence of the sensitization campaign is to launch and develop Micah Challenge across the country. They will be one day events bringing together church leaders and Christians from the province.

Pray that the JC Conference Centre, which is currently under construction, will be completed by August 2008. $12,000 is required to complete the Centre. The conference Centre is important for our church mobilization program as we have developed an integral mission course for churches that we want to conduct regularly using this facility.
