JUBILEE CENTRE, a local non-governmental organization (NGO), has embarked on a social responsibility programme for Chibuluma Township where it will spend more than K25 Million on charity works. The organization, which works with a number of churches in Zambia, has planned to spend K12 Million on assistance on the three child headed homes and another K12 Million on improving three church structures in the township.

Speaking in Chibuluma on Tuesday during the handover of building materials bought using the same money for the projects, Jubilee Centre Church Mobilisation programme coordinator, Agnes Zalila said some people faced a lot of challenges and needed help.

Ms Zalila said the programme was intended to better the welfare of the vulnerable in the township and also to help the Church respond to the needs of the vulnerable.

She said Jubilee Centre, in collaboration with local churches, identified three child-headed homes and decided to renovate their houses.

She said in addition to improving shelter for the children running families, Jubilee Centre had taken upon itself to also help three Chibuluma-based churches complete their buildings.

The three churches that received building materials from the organization are the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC), Assemblies of God and New Covenant.

One of the beneficiaries, 13-year-old ChristopherJC Photos 140 (Small).jpg Ukule said when he received the building materials that both his parents died six years ago and he has since been living with his five younger brothers and sisters together with their disabled grandmother.

Christopher, who sells twig brooms to raise income for the entire family’s upkeep, said their two roomed mud house was in a terrible state.

“I just want to thank Jubilee Centre for what they have done for us by providing these building materials which will help us improve our house. We don’t have any relative to support us.” He said.

Jubilee Centre, in collaboration with the youth drawn various churches in the same locality, also spent K2 JC Photos 132 (Medium).jpgMillion on Chibuluma Police Post where it painted the structure and slashed the surrounding.

Jubilee Centre national youth coordinator, Christopher Chanda said the idea to engage the youth in cleaning the police post was to appreciate the work the police is doing.
