“AUNTIE “ MWAONA KUTI NALEMELA?”-have you seen that I am now rich?” this was a question posed to the HIV/AIDS Coordinator Agnes by 12 year old Dorcas Phiri a child living with HIV in George compound in Lusaka. Agnes had no idea what the girl was talking about so she asked what the girl meant. The girl then said, “I now own a blanket and have food for the month. I have never owned a blanket, as I always have to share with someone or use a chitenge (wrapper) to cover myself. Today I have a blanket, mealie meal, groundnuts and even Soya flour. So I am rich.”

Dorcas was one of the 240 PLWHA who received a blanket each, 10kg mealie meal, groundnuts and Soya flour.

Agnes was left speechless, humbled and broken, as she has never looked at owning a blanket as riches. Yet for Dorcas, these are riches. Have you ever thought that owning a blanket would classify you as being rich? Dorcas is one life that God has touched and transformed through a gift of a blanket.

“A blanket in the hands of a church that knows that Christ can use anything to invite people to a loving relationship with Him can make a difference for Christ  and his Kingdom” Said Lawrence Temfwe the Executive Director of JC, who came to Christ 28 years ago after he prayed that God provide a blanket for him.

Dorcas attends church at Faith Tabernacle in Lusaka George Compound. Her Pastor, Wozifera Ngoma upon hearing the girl’s words stated, "Caring for people’s physical needs is clearly one of the most thrilling developments in disciple-making and church growth I have seen. The vision is big. The task is huge. But because it is our God who is leading the possibilities are also eternally exciting."
